thinking back with ccr questions
1.
How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does
it represent social groups or issues?
The commercial
portrayed a character bumping into someone and walking off with out skipping a
beat. This may be a convention with many teenage students. It also tested
conventions in ways. Most students may not go out of their way to pick up
someone’s trash and put in a considerable amount of effort towards making their
day a bit better. It also represented social groups such as high school students.
As for social issues, it represented littering and bullying.
How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
The commercial engages the audiences’ emotions. They may feel sympathy at
certain times while thankful during others. It also may differ how they feel
about the product being sold. It is meant to make them feel as though the gum
will have a positive impact in their life if purchased. It is meant to do all
of this in a matter of seconds. It would be distributed through the commercial
portion of streaming services. Anytime a movie, television show, YouTube video,
etc. is played.
How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Really getting
behind the camera and shooting the commercial with very little instruction on
how, has helped to develop my production skills much further. I started out with some experience but had a
much larger team and didn’t do as mush on screen work. I had to think quick to
solve problems that came along. I bounced ideas around with my groupmates to
try and figure out what would work best for all of us. We all had equal part in
this and had to come to agreements if we wanted things to run smoothly. I got a
chance to experience each and every part of the process from just an idea to
the finished product and everything in between.
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
Technology took part in this project quite a bit. Before
we began filming, the internet was used to come up with ideas and research each
one. We watched many Extra gum commercials as well. In the commercial itself,
it is used visibly by actors to portray the characters and their roles more accurately.
As for behind the scenes, smartphones were used to record and view each scene.
Then all those clips were transferred onto a laptop so that editing software
could be used. After struggling with the editing tool on the laptop we decided
to use a simpler one on a smartphone. We completed editing on their and
transferred the finished video to our laptops to turn them in.
